Installing an EV charger yourself is not recommended. A certified electrician can assess your home or office electrical system to determine the right type of EV charging station for you. Some EV charging stations wil alsol void their warranty if they are not installed by a certified electrician.
If you are looking to have an EV charger installed at your residence you must meet the following requirements:
- You own the property, or have permission from the property owner
- You have your own off-street parking spot
- You have access to a home wi-fi network
If you are looking to provide a public EV charging station, regulations and requirements differ depending on what network you choose to partner with. There are more than 20 different EV charging networks in the UK with varying coverage, cost and charging options.
You may also be able to take advantage of several grant schemes aimed at reducing the cost of charging infrastructure installation for both homes and workplaces offered by the government to support the wider use of electric and hybrid vehicles.
