What is a home rewire?

Fully rewiring a house will require all switches, sockets, and fittings to be replaced and require new wiring through the structure of the property.

Why would I need a full or partial home rewiring?

All electrical installations will deteriorate over time. It is highly recommended for systems over 25 years old to be checked by certified electricians at regular intervals. Of all the causes of electrical fires, old or faulty wiring is the most common culprit, so in the interest of keeping your property safe, it is best to diagnose problems early.

Full or partial rewiring?

Your electrician may deem that fully rewiring the property is not necessary and remedial action would only consist of partially rewiring the electrical systems. This is usually less time consuming, less invasive, and less expensive than a full rewire.

When should a rewire be performed?

  • If the outcome of your EICR test requires remedial action
  • If new circuits are required to be installed
  • If changes have been made to the structure of the property
  • If your property has been subject to flood or fire damage
  • If the electrical system in the house is presenting faults.

Can I perform a home rewire myself?

Performing a rewire without a certified electrician can be extremely dangerous as you expose yourself and your property to risk of electric shock and fire. In addition to this, you must make a Building Regulations application, and have the work that you performed inspected both before and after by a certified electrician.

How are wet areas related to home rewiring?

Restrictions exist on electrical work in wet areas (bathrooms etc.) where there is the greatest danger of electrocution. No power sockets are permitted other than shaver sockets, away from the splash zone from showers, and switches require pull cord operation. The I.E.E. Wiring regulations (BS 7671: 2001 Section 601) outlines the specific criteria that a property must fulfil in order to have a safe wet area.

Who should I choose to rewire my property?

Performing a partial or full rewire of a property often requires creating new circuits, this means the work is notifiable to your building control department a registered NICEIC or ELECSA contractor can perform this notification your behalf. Certified Electricians London have a wealth of experience performing full and partial home rewiring, we are careful to minimize the disruption work like this causes to your day to day life, and ensure your house is left neat and tidy as it was before the work was performed.

I recently had a hanging pendent ligts over the dining area. Spoke with David over the phone and he suggested us to go with wireless switch for our hanging pendent light. This surely saved us from opening up the walls for sorting out wires. On the day, Marlow came over to install the light and I'm very happy with the work he did. Very friendly and genuine guy. Would definetly come back for future electrical works if needed.

David and Marlowe are the best electricians I’ve ever had. Here’s why:They simply care: They replied to my emergency message immediately, even though it was late at night.Extremely professional: I was slightly panicked when my old electric shower stopped working, fearing major issues like cable damage under the flooring. Here's what they did to solve the problem: 1. They diagnosed the issue, causing minimal damage to my bathroom furnishings. 2. Even though the root cause turned out to be the worst case—cable damage under the floor—they managed to fix it smartly by rewiring from the other side of the wall. This saved me tons of money by avoiding hiring a builder to redo the flooring, and fixed the problem without needing to worry about the old underfloor cable forever!Highly efficient: The diagnosis and fix both happened within 2 hours.Respectful: They cleaned up the mess left by the work as much as possible.Fair and transparent pricing: David makes sure I know the price before the work is carried out. Very fair price comparatively. No hidden fees, no unwanted surprises.

Called David with an emergency as none of the electricity in my flat was working (no fridge/freezer, no WiFi). He immediately responded and was very patient with me and my spotty reception, managing to find the issue really quickly and restore the electricity, following up with advice for how to continue. Really professional, and seriously helpful.
