What is a home rewire?

Fully rewiring a house will require all switches, sockets, and fittings to be replaced and require new wiring through the structure of the property.

Why would I need a full or partial home rewiring?

All electrical installations will deteriorate over time. It is highly recommended for systems over 25 years old to be checked by certified electricians at regular intervals. Of all the causes of electrical fires, old or faulty wiring is the most common culprit, so in the interest of keeping your property safe, it is best to diagnose problems early.

Full or partial rewiring?

Your electrician may deem that fully rewiring the property is not necessary and remedial action would only consist of partially rewiring the electrical systems. This is usually less time consuming, less invasive, and less expensive than a full rewire.

When should a rewire be performed?

  • If the outcome of your EICR test requires remedial action
  • If new circuits are required to be installed
  • If changes have been made to the structure of the property
  • If your property has been subject to flood or fire damage
  • If the electrical system in the house is presenting faults.

Can I perform a home rewire myself?

Performing a rewire without a certified electrician can be extremely dangerous as you expose yourself and your property to risk of electric shock and fire. In addition to this, you must make a Building Regulations application, and have the work that you performed inspected both before and after by a certified electrician.

How are wet areas related to home rewiring?

Restrictions exist on electrical work in wet areas (bathrooms etc.) where there is the greatest danger of electrocution. No power sockets are permitted other than shaver sockets, away from the splash zone from showers, and switches require pull cord operation. The I.E.E. Wiring regulations (BS 7671: 2001 Section 601) outlines the specific criteria that a property must fulfil in order to have a safe wet area.

Who should I choose to rewire my property?

Performing a partial or full rewire of a property often requires creating new circuits, this means the work is notifiable to your building control department a registered NICEIC or ELECSA contractor can perform this notification your behalf. Certified Electricians London have a wealth of experience performing full and partial home rewiring, we are careful to minimize the disruption work like this causes to your day to day life, and ensure your house is left neat and tidy as it was before the work was performed.

Excellent communication, incredibly professional service, fair prices - David and Marlowe were brilliant to work with when conducting an EICR and then undertaking the subsequent remedial works. They clearly explained what the issues were in our home (both verbally and via email) and provided all of the information we needed. Very glad to have found them and will absolutely turn to them in the future. Thank you so much!

They fixed the switch for me and was able to send someone on the same day. Initially I gave three star review due to the switch not matching to the rest of the flat and some wall paint was chipped off. However the team contacted me and kindly did a second visit and fixed issue. I really appreciate the communication and effort they put into taking care of the customer. So I amended my review to 5 star! Highly recommend the service!

Marlowe did a superb job. He arrived quickly and on time after our pet chewed through our fridge cable. He fixed the cable quickly and suggested making it extra chew-proof without me needing to ask. He tolerated my bad tea and pets and even entertained my nosy children. THIS is what small business is about. Very pleased
